Hello HvK Fans,

I'm pleased to have discovered this site. I wish Linda much success in its growth. I find it to be a valued supplement to the HvK Centrum site.

On to the reason-to-be here. Karajan recordings.

EMI's made Karajan reissue strides in various series, but they have a long way to go. I expect/demand that many more of their Studio series see new remastering light.
DG, I'm pleased to say, is continuing their quest to clean up the sound of some 60's & '70's recordings.

Two recent DG purchases (2004/5):
SACD/Hybrid LvB Sym. 9 (1962). Some nice improvement on 2-channel, versus the DG Originals 1995 reissue. I trust the multi-channel aspect is a thrill for many. I have no multi-channel desire at this time, for classical music.
The Collection (2 CDs) LvB Syms. 5, 6, 9 (1970's) remastering is vastly superior over previous reissues. People know about the 5 and 9, but I think the 6 is very underrated. It MUST be heard in this new reissue.

Warm Regards,
Van

It is a great site to remember the most important conductor of the XX Century. I had the chance to attend to some of his concerts in Salzburg and once in Rome on the occasion of the Holy Mass in St.Peter Cathedral. His orchestral sound with the Berlin Philharmonic has not been surpassed.

Hallo , I'm from the Netherlands. I see
Karajan 56 times in Opera & Concerts
between 1980-89. Now I'm looking for trade live recordings(Radio or In House)
with Karajan. I have 130 Opera's and 200
concerts ready on CDR.

I was born in Salzburg and lived there until I was 10. Karajan has been my life long passion and as far as I'm concerned, no one equals or surpases him. Singers invariably sing better under Karajan! He is missed!

It is dear. . How do you do, I am called Kanai of living in Tokyo. I had you teach from the acquaintance, Mr. Sasaki, and it came here.
By Karajan's fan, I also wrote his performance criticism to the music technical magazine.
It comes for play from now on. With it

In 1972 -73 I worked at the Berlin Philharmonic. At 18 years of age I was the American Representitive for the Philharmonie. I saw HVK many times, in concert, in rehearsal and saw him several times attending concerts. He signed my program after a performance of Also Sprach Zarathustra. I met him in 76 during a rehearsal. i saw him perform a special concert for the World Banks. When he was finished conducting the audience was so spellbound applause wasn't good enough to express what the audience had experienced. They exited in silence except for comments "Fantastic", "Greatest thing I've ever heard"... His presence and persona have altered my perception of music.

Linda I did try once before to send a message re Karajan but was still learning. However as you know John and my late husband went to so many of his concerts in London and I always thought it an honour to be there especially the last one. John and I thought we were saying goodbye as it happened we were so nice to write in your book.
Best wishes
Heather.

The site is a wonderful tribute to one of the most prodigiously gifted conductors of the twentieth century. Linda Perkins must be congratulated for her knowledge and commitment.

at a time when it has become fashionable to decry his musical achievments, it is good to find a place where those achievments are both recognised and celebrated. whatever else he may or may not have been, karajan was one of the truly great conductors.

As a friend of Rosemary Foster (my ex-piano teacher) I look forward in due course to going further into the site. Karajan was one of the first conductors I bought on record.

Brilliant idea, I haven’t had time to fully look/listen to everything yet but will look forward to it. My cousin, Irene Thynne, told me about your web site. I was Rosemary Thynne, Malcolm’s daughter.

“To work in a creative profession is a privilege, and we have a responsibility to carry out our work so that it brings joy and fulfilment to those who do not have this fortune” (HvK) This is the reason that make me fond of love with him.
